The latest 2007 World Series of Poker tournament circuit event, held at the Horseshoe Casino in Council Bluffs, IA, began yesterday and runs through February 7th, culminating with a $5,000 buy-in Championship Event. They are currently running satellites ranging in price between $60 and $110.

Seems that being Daniel Negreanu's Poker Protege is a good thing. A very good thing, in fact. Brian Fidler, who won Daniel's contest last month, has placed second in the Lake Tahoe World Series of Poker Circuit Event. Brian won $206,800 for his efforts.

As protege, Fidler won one-on-one instruction with Negreanu as well as entries into four different $10,000 main event poker tournaments, of which this was his first.

First place in the event went to Clinton Baskin who took home $372,240.

The final tournament series before the 2006 Tournament of Champions is now running at Harrah's Lake Tahoe. The $10,000 Championship Event begins this Friday, June 16th, but preliminary events have been running since June 6th.

The TOC will be held at the Rio in Las Vegas on June 25/26, during the first week of the World Series of Poker. Here is a look back at the winners of each Championship Circuit Event of the 2005/2006 season:

Grand Casino Tunica, August 11-25, 2005
The first event of the 2005/06 season was held at the Grand Casino Tunica. Gregg Merkow of Plano, Texas took down the Championship Event, earning $561,175 for his efforts. Merkow has since placed first in two events this year, the $3000 No Limit Hold'em event at the 2006 Gold Strike World Poker Open, and the $500 NLHE event at the Jack Binion World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit, also held in Tunica.

Harrah's Las Vegas, September 6-16, 2005
Chris 'Jesus' Ferguson is certainly a man that needs no introduction. Jesus won the Main Event at Harrah's, taking home $362,088. His lifetime tournament earnings are in excess of $5.3 million dollars.

Grand Casino Biloxi, September 29-October 12, 2005
This event was cancelled due to the hurricanes in the Gulf Coast region.

Caesars Indiana, October 19-November 2, 2005
Vinnie Vinh collected $437,760 after beating 126 other players, including Men 'The Master' Nguyen who finished in second place. Vinh is no stranger to the game of poker, he has placed in the money in more than 40 tournaments over the past four years.

Paris/Bally's Las Vegas, November 9-22, 2005
Thang 'Kido' Pham of Texas won $442,426 for winning the Championship Event at the Paris/Bally's Circuit. His lifetime earnings are in excess of $1.1 million.

Showboat Atlantic City, November 28-December 9, 2005
Chris Reslock of Atlantic City beat John Juanda for the title, ring, and $335,235. Reslock also has quite an impressive record, having earned just over $750,000 in lifetime poker tournament winnings.

Jack Binion WSOP Tournament Circuit - Grand Casino, January 5-26, 2006
The Circuit returned to the Grand Casino where Daniel Negreanu took down the Championship Event, earning himself a cool $755,525. Known as one of the top poker players in the world, Negreanu has earned more than $7 million dollars in tournaments alone in his lifetime.

Harrah's Atlantic City, February 7-17, 2006
Abraham Korotki beat 123 other players to win the Championship Event in Atlantic City, collecting $433,008 for his efforts.

Harrah's Rincon San Diego, February 26-March 8, 2006
Darrell Dicken of Iowa won $372,780 after beating an impressive final table that included Kathy Liebert, who finished in 3rd, and Andy Bloch who placed in 7th.

Caesars Atlantic City, March 21-31, 2006
The action continued in Atlantic City, where Jeffrey King outlasted 98 others to take home the first place prize of $345,708.

Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, April 27-May 12, 2006
John Spadavecchia of Florida collected a whopping $648,320 for finishing in first place in a field of 209 players. Spadavecchia has earned over $1.5 million in his tournament career.

Harrah's New Orleans, May 18-28, 2006
Last month, Peter Feldman collected $532,950 after beating Gavin Smith who finished in second place.

Harrah's Lake Tahoe, June 6-19, 2006
The Championship Event will begin this Friday, June 16. Check back in later this week for updates on the preliminary events, as well as the championship.

As I mentioned, the 2006 Tournament of Champions will be held on June 28/29. Annie Duke won the first annual event in 2004, collecting $2 million after beating eight others who were selected for the single table, invitation-only, winner-takes-all match. In 2005, the structure changed drastically. 114 players competed, and Mike 'The Mouth' Matusow emerged victorious, collecting $1,000,000 and the title. Top nine and their prize money in 2005 were as follows:

The World Series of Poker Tournament Circuit event at Caesar's Palace wrapped tonight, and John Spadavecchia took down the championship. The total prize pool was $1,964,600, of which he earned $648,320 for his efforts after beating a field of 209 players.

Spadavecchia has been playing on the poker circuit for years, but this is by far his largest reported cash to date in a major tournament.

Allen Cunningham, often referred to as the most underrated player in poker, has taken down another win. This time it was in the $1k buy-in event at the 2006 World Series of Poker Circuit event currently running at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Cunningham collected $106,161 for this win, making his career tournament earnings total an excess of $3.5 million.

Last year, Allen placed first in four tournaments including the $3k event at the 5th Annual Five Diamond Classic at the Bellagio, the 3k event at the Plaza's Ultimate Poker Challenge, and the $1500 NLHE event at the 2005 World Series of Poker.

Also placing in the money at the same tournament as Cunningham was David Tran of El Monte, California. David took third place and collected $29,857 for his efforts. This is the 8th tournament cash for David Tran in 2006 alone.

Even with less than two months to go until the 2006 World Series of Poker, tournaments around the country are showing no signs of slowing down. If anything, there seems to be more every month. Here is a look at what is happening in May:

Currently running:

Caesars Palace in Las Vegas is currently hosting a WSOP Tournament Circuit event, with individual events ranging between $200 and $5000 buy-ins. The $10,000 buy-in Championship Event begins on May 8th and runs through the 11th.

Garden City Casino in San Jose, California, is currently running their 2006 7th Annual WSOP Warm UP. This tournament series features lower buy-ins - all events are either $180 or $200 to enter. The tournament wraps on May 8th.

  Upcoming:
   
The 2006 Mirage Poker Showdown begins tomorrow and runs through May 17th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The preliminary events range from $500 to $7500, which includes a LIPS Ladies tournament. The Main Event is scheduled to begin on May 14th and will be a World Poker Tour televised event.

On Friday, the Commerce Casino in California will begin their 2006 Heavenly Hold'em tournament with a series of smaller events ranging between $200 and $500. The Main Event entry free is $2500 and will be held on May 21st.

The Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, NJ, will run their 2006 Ultimate Super Satellite Tournament between May 5th and 7th. Details for this tournament (courtesy of the Borgata website) are as follows:

  • May 5th - Day one event: $110 entry fee, one out of every 10 players will advance to the Ultimate Super Satellite Tournament on Sunday, May 7, 2006.
  • May 6th - Day two event: $220 entry. One out of every 5 players will advance to the Ultimate Super Satellite Tournament on Sunday, May 7, 2006.
  • May 7th - One winner for every fifty entrants will win the Ultimate Prize Package - consisting of the following:   
  1. Mandalay Bay Poker Championship $10,200 - June 4-8, 2006
  2. WSOP Main Event at Rio $10,000 - July 28 thru Aug 10, 2006
  3. Borgata Poker Open $10,000 - September 15-18, 2006
  4. Foxwoods World Poker Finals $10,000 - November 11-16, 2006

Binions Gambling Hall in Las Vegas is returning to the poker tournament scene with the 2006 American Poker Player Championship, running May 10th - 24th. Tom McEvoy and Susie Issacs are hosting the tournament which will feature 29 events starting at $300 and ranging up to the $5,000 Main Event.

If you just happen to be planning a trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico this month, you may want to check out the 2006 Jan Juan Dream Classic. This event will span five days, May 10th - 14th, at the Ritz-Carlton San Juan Hotel Spa & Casino. The entry fee for this single tournament is $5,000.

The Reno Hilton will be hosting the 2006 Spring Pot of Gold tournament between May 11th and 21st. This is a smaller set of tournaments; buy-ins range between $100-$500 with a $1,000 Main Event.

The 2006 Fourth Annual Turning Stone Classic in Verona, NY, begins on May 17th. The tournament boasts five events held over five days, all buy-ins are either $200, $300, $500, or $1,000.

The 2006 WSOP Tournament Circuit leaves Caesars in Las Vegas and moves to Harrah's New Orleans on May 18th through the 28th. The Championship Event has a $10,000 buy-in and begins on May 25th.

The Bicycle Casino in California will be hosting the 2006 America's Poker Classic between May 22nd and June 4th. This is a series of smaller events, with buy-ins ranging between $100 and $500.

The second World Poker Tour event of the month will be held in Las Vegas at the 2006 Mandalay Bay Poker Championship between May 25th and June 8th. Preliminary events range between $1000 and $2500, and the Championship Event (beginning on June 4th) will cost $10,000 to enter.

March was a busy month for tournaments, but it looks like April is going to be just as crazy. Here is a quick look at some of what is coming up over the next thirty days:

2006 Foxwoods Poker Classic
This series of tournaments held at the newly redesigned Foxwoods Resort Casino began March 27th and will continue through April 9th. The Championship Event, which has a $9700 plus $300 buy-in, will be a World Poker Tour televised event and begins April 6th.

The 2006 'Oklahoma Johnny' Hale Open
Tulsa, Oklahoma. Small series of tournaments with a $500 buy-in main event April 8/9.

4th Annual Five-Star World Poker Classic
Held at the Bellagio in Las Vegas, Nevada, this tournament series runs between April 5th and April 24th. The $25,000 buy-in WPT Championship Event begins on April 18th.

2006 Stars and Stripes
This series at the Bicycle Casino spans twenty days and features touraments with buy-ins between $100-$300. The main event is a $500 entry, beginning on April 19th.2006 Spring Poker Round-Up
The Wildhorse Resort Casino in Pendleton, OR, is hosting the Spring Poker Round-Up, which runs between April 12-22. All tournaments are between $100 and $500 entry.

2006 Pechanga Open
Four tournaments over four days at the Pechanga Resort and Casino in Temecula, California. Buy-ins are $100, $200, $150 and $500.

2006 Midwest Regional Poker Championships
Held between April 19th and May 1st at Caesars Indiana. The main event is a $5000 entry and begins April 30th.

2006 Oasis Open
Perfect for Low Rollers, all tournament entries are $100 or under. Held at the Oasis Resort and Casino in Mesquite, NV. That is an hour outside of Vegas, for those not knowing.

2006 WSOP Tournament Circuit - Caesars
Held at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, Nevada, this tournament begins April 27th and runs through May 10th. The $10,000 Main Event begins in May.

The 2006 World Series of Poker circuit event at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego, California, concluded yesterday with Darrell 'Gigabet' Dicken of Waterloo, IA, winning the top prize of $372,780 and an entry into the 2006 WSOP Tournament of Champions. This year alone, Dicken has finished in the money in three other tournaments - two events at the 2006 Gold Strike World Poker Open, as well as the 2006 Jack Binion WSOP circuit event in Tunica.

Despite Andy Bloch's chip lead on Monday, he was unable to place higher than 7th, bringing home a $51,755 payday. Kathy Liebert, a highly consistent tournament player, took third place after her all-in raise with A-K lost to Darrell Dicken's A-Q on a board of A-Q-T-3-3.

Remember the days when major poker tournaments were few and far between? That certainly isn't the case anymore. Here is a look at what is coming up in the month of March, check back for information and updates on each of these tournaments:

The Winnin 'O' the Green Poker Tournament is currently running at the Bicycle Casino in Bell Gardens, California, culminating with a $2500 buy-in main event between March 24-26.

2006 World Poker Challenge, held at the Reno Hilton in Reno, Nevada, kicks off on Thursday, March 9th and runs until March 30th. This tournament will feature a World Poker Tour televised main event.

Card Player Cruises presents the 5th annual Party Poker Million between March 12-March 19. Last year Michael Gracz won this tournament. This is no longer a World Poker Tour event.

2006 WSOP Tournament Circuit Event at Caesar's Atlantic City runs between March 21 and March 31st. The  main event will feature a $10,000 buy-in NLHE tournament.

2006 Foxwoods Poker Classic begins March 27th and runs through April 9th ending with a World Poker Tour televised $10,000 buy-in main event.

2006 Sport of Kings tournament held at the Hollywood Park Casino begins on March 29th.

The 2006 WSOP Circuit Event at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego began yesterday with 109 entrants competing for a total prize pool of $1,057,298. Andy Bloch is currently leading the pack with T145,300 chips. Also still in the running are Kathy Liebert and John Juanda, though they are both relatively short-stacked in comparison to Bloch with T29,000 and T25,000 chips respectively.
