Manchester United Casino

EurotripThe Manchester United Soccer Team recently decided to kill their plans to build a Las Vegas style casino. The casino was expected to be located at Old Trafford.

Manchester United had originally teamed up with the Las Vegas Sands Corporation to build this casino. They submitted development plans for the casino complex this past May. Those plans included a five-star hotel, restaurants, a health club and sports bar.

Paddy Power's Last Supper

jesusI saw a funny story online in a few places but never linked it up. I decided to after seeing a post about it on Wicked Chops Poker the other day.

There is an online gambling site known as Paddy Power and they recently took down an advertising ad they were using after it offended an entire religion.

The Roman Catholics in Ireland were not too happy with the ad that Paddy Power ran. They took offense to it because the online site used da Vinci's Last Supper in a marketing campaign.

The New James Bond

BondWilliam Hill, an online sports book, had to close down betting on who will be the next actor to portray James Bond. They stopped action because the betting was getting heavy on Daniel Craig to win. This guy used to date former supermodel Kate Moss.

Craig is an English actor who’s been in movies with Gwyneth Paltrow, Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks and Paul Newman. If the rumors are true, he will be the first blonde James Bond. The new Bond flick will be called Casino Royale. It starts filming in January 2006.

Singapore Launches Problem Gambler Website

Eddie and ClarkSingapore recently launched a website for problem gamblers. The government is trying to address concerns over a possible rise in bankruptcies and gambling addiction. They‘re doing so to be pre-emptive. Two casinos will be opening up over there in a few years.
 
The National Council on Problem Gambling website has a "self-test" on it. They also have stories from gambling addicts and information on where to seek help and treatment. The government is looking to cut down on gambling addiction amongst their citizens.

Slotland.com Builds School

bartSlotland.com is doing a great deed. They‘re building a school for an African village in Malawi. Malawi is a former British colony located in southeast Africa. It’s one of the world’s poorest countries. Most of the locals live on less than a dollar a day.

A portion of Slotland.com’s profits will be donated to a fund called “New Chance for a New Generation.” The original plan was to donate money to a worthy charity that focused on aid to Africa. Slotland.com decided it might be best to get more involved by directly funding a specific charity project. They eventually chose to build a school.

Steve Wynn Las Vegas

wynnSteve Wynn has jumped into the product branding market with full force. The value of his name is pretty strong so he’s looking to maximize his profits with it. Wynn wants his name to be synonymous with quality products and luxury service. He’s hoping that people from all around the world will think so too.

It will be tough but Steve’s name recognition should help give him a good shot at being successful. Wynn Resorts Ltd. has been marketing and selling Wynn-branded retail and hotel products.

Costa Rica Poker Expo

BeachThere is going to be a Poker Industry Expo in Costa Rica this winter. It’s scheduled to be held on December 3rd - 4th at the San Jose Palacio Hotel. This poker expo is held annually and it is a business convention for the poker industry.

This expo will cover a variety of topics related to poker including marketing, poker room management, and technology. The usual list of participants include poker room managers, online poker executives, casino executives, poker players, and others.

Backgammon on TV

backgammonThe first ever televised Backgammon game occurred this month. The event was filmed in Monte Carlo back in July 2005 and it involved over 500 players from around the world. These players were competing for $100,000 and the title of World Champion.

This was actually the 30th World Backgammon Championships. Many of the world’s top players showed up to test their skills. This program was created to increase fan interest.

Cantor Casino

diceCantor Fitzgerald, an investment broker firm, has launched their own online casino. It’s called Cantor Casino. Their casino games will include roulette, blackjack, mini baccarat, video poker and slots. They will also have some Asian games like Pai Gow and Sic Bo.

Cantor Casino is actually the first product of Cantor Gaming. Cantor Gaming is the Cantor Fitzgerald subsidiary that will develop and operate online and mobile casinos for companies in consumer related industries. They will be using software created by the Gaming & Entertainment Group.

Sun Poker

ExtrasThe Sun, a U.K. newspaper recently launched their own online poker room. It’s called Sun Poker and they are throwing a free online tournament to celebrate their opening. Go to the Sun Online website for more details.

Sun Poker is going to send several players to the Grand Final at London’s Palm Beach Casino in December. You have a chance to battle it out for over £30,000 in prizes.

WSOP Heads to Latin America

charoThe World Series of Poker is heading south of the border this winter. Starting in February, Harrah’s will be holding satellites to the WSOP all throughout Latin America.
 
Harrah’s recently signed a deal with the CIRSA Corporation to hold these satellite tournaments. CIRSA operates many casinos and bingo halls in Latin America.

Wynn Las Vegas and Wynn Macau

wynnWynn Resorts has promoted Andrew Pascal to President and Chief Operating Officer of Wynn Las Vegas. Andrew will now oversee daily operations of the Las Vegas resort.

Andrew used to be the Executive Vice President and COO of Wynn Las Vegas. He started working with Wynn Resorts in 2003 after many years in the gaming industry. He replaces Marc Schorr who has much bigger responsibilities on his plate.

EPT Baden Champ

patrikPatrik Antonius won the 2005 Baden European Poker Tour Championship today. Patrik took down Gunnar Osterbrod in heads up play. Stop by and read Otis’ tourney reports on the Poker Stars Blog. Otis live blogged the entire event from Austria and did a great job.
 
Patrik has been running really well lately. He won the Scandinavian Championship in Stockholm in August. He also made the final table at the Barcelona event. Patrik is definitely on fire!

Mayfair Poker Club to Open in London

MayfairA new member’s only poker club is set to open for business in early 2006. It will be located in Mayfair, which is in central London. The Fox Poker Club will be the name of this new club.

They‘ve applied for a Casino License with the Gaming Board of Great Britain. If they are successful in their bid, this will be London’s first fully licensed card room. This club will be next door to its sister club, The Fox Club.
