The 2006 Mandalay Bay Poker Championship's Main Event began on Sunday, June 4th and will conclude today. Many notable names in poker placed in the events leading up to the championship game - some of which include: - Amir Vahedi and Kathy Liebert both made the final table in a $1,000 event, Amir earned $69.055 for his second place finish, and Kathy earned $11,500 for coming in sixth.
- In another $1,000 preliminary event, Gary Gibbs claimed first, Tony Ma took second, and Robert Mizrachi placed 4th. Now that is a table I wish would have been televised.
- Nam Le placed second in the $1,500 event, losing out to Mike Minetti of Las Vegas.
- In a $2,000 event, Michael 'The Grinder' Mizrachi earned the first place prize of $114,850, as well as 384 more Card Player POY points - further solidifying his lead in that race. Joanne 'J.J.' Liu placed fourth in the same event.
- And finally, John Phan placed second in the $2,500 NLHE event, losing out to Brian Haveson of Newton, PA
