I saw this funny article today about NBA basketball star Gilbert Arenas. Supposedly, he likes to play poker online.

He loves the competition so much that he’s been known to play poker during halftime of the Washington Wizards games.

Arenas just sits at his locker and plays while everyone else on his team gets ready for the second half.

Arenas said he likes to play at halftime because, “It's just a mental challenge, to keep my mind going.''

Arenas is big on playing video games too and he’s also a pretty good pool player and bowler. His high score in bowling is 277.

He even confessed to staying up really late at night to play poker and video games online. He doesn't do that anymore. He joked that he replaced that habit with watching movies.

I guess he has to get his poker fix somehow, so why not play it at halftime especially when you’re as good as he is on the basketball court.

5. What does his bad back have to do with him playing online poker? Also, who says that he's playing for $$$$. Like he said it's relaxation for him. It's something different.

I like playing poker too but when I'm done online I still have the same amount in my pocket. Cant this be the same for Gilbert?

6. Pete Rose bet on baseball and even games he was manger of. Arenas is playing online poker. The two are apples and oranges. Also I've never seen an online poker table with more then 100 200 dollar blinds so i think his mazed out contract and fortune are safe for a while.

7. Gil has led the Wizards back to their second straight post season and has made the franchise respectable again. He is a great player and person who gives back to the community. I could care less if he play online poker. Hell, he could spank his meat at half time, as long as it helps win games.

8. Typical lazy minded basketball player. Basketball is a joke anyway, give em' each a hundred points and let em' play for two minutes. Only sport I know of where even the fans in the seats aren't paying much attention until the final two minutes. It's just a show, not a game, until those final minutes. Just a perfect game to not worry about studying strategy or adjusting anything a halftime, just sit there and play games. Perfect.

9. This is a free world. Why does everyone have to judge someone else for what they do especially if they arenot hurting anyone. We all live in glass houses and shouldnot throw stones. Gilbert is a great person, role model etc. give him the credit he deserves. What would you prefer hearing about his poking playing at halftime or his being hemmed up with some slut. Whatever keeps you sane Gilbert do it and I love you!

10. Basketball is the one of the most cerebral fast paced sports especially for a point guard such as Gilbert Arenas. Whatever he does to keep his mind sharp yet relaxed seems to be working. Playing poker for fun is perfectly acceptable and any references to gambling with money are unjustified.

12. Yo jim. I dare you say that where people will actually hear you. If you really KNOW basketball you and actually understand it, you wouldn't even dare talk shit about it.What sport do you prefer Jim? Checkers? Ping Pong? Marco Polo? Dodge ball? stick and stones? Oh yeah about Gilbert, He enjoys the same thing that everybody would do to relax or have fun. He could buy his own slot machine if wants to.. I dont care. Live the guy alone.

14. It is not apples and oranges. MLB also kicked out Mickey Mantle after he retired for being a casino greeter. MLB is very gamble-phobic! The NBA runs a looser ship.

17. ARENAS & STOREY’S ARREST

In ref to Arenas & Storeys arrest in Miami Beach on Memorial Day weekend. I witness the entire incident, I even took pictures of them being arrested. They were not doing anything at all. This nonsense about them obstructing the traffic that was totally false. They just wanted to make an example out of them and they did.

Storey and Arena were in a Limo, the traffic was not moving it was at a stand still; there were so many people it was like a parade. Storey got out of the Limo to talk to someone on the car behind them who happened to be behind the Limo he was in. The Police told Storey to MOVE very rudely. He replied by saying Ok that’s all he said. The police then said in a very loud and rude tone of voice “I WANT YOU TO MOVE NOW” and suddenly the female Police started to blow her whistle and about 20 police in bicycles charged him against a parked car like on a football game as if he was resisting arrest, which he wasn't.

Then his teammate Arenas came out of the Limo to see what was going on. One of the arresting officers yelled at him to get back. He told the police officer this is my friend I just want to know where are you taking him? Suddenly they started to push Arenas head down on the parked car very aggressively and arrested him as well.

In the mean time there was a guy filming the entire incident when the police then rushed this individual to the ground and took away his video camera.
Obviously because he had it all on tape the entire evidence of the Miami Police brutality.

From the Hotel lobby across the street people started yelling at the police
“LET THEM GO THEY DIDN’T DO ANYTHING” and next thing you know the police was charging at the people in the Hotel lobby that were yelling at them. It was ridiculous; they were out of line and out of control. It was like they were instigating to start a riot or something it was pretty scary.

I understand if they were behaving unruly which they weren't. And they were not obstructing the street like they said in the news. There was a lot more crimes happening in South Beach that day that the police should have focus and concentrated on instead of this nonsense. It was very obvious that these guys were very cleaned cut and you could tell they were not the Loud Thugs that were out there that weekend misbehaving.

THE MIAMI POLICE WAS OUT OF CONTROL AND OUT OF LINE. Then they wonder why they get no respect. They need to start showing respect in-order to receive respect.

Before I forget Arenas never once mention that he was a basketball player, I don't know where the police or the media got that statement. The media always likes to blow things out of contents. The Miami police didn’t give Arenas the option to let him take his teammate with him. When he approach the officers and asked them why were they arresting his teammate? They just proceeded to arrests him as well, without giving him an answer or a reason as to why they were arresting his friend. They just wanted to harass them, which they did.

Like I said my friend & I witness the entire incident it happened on Saturday evening at about 9 something, on 8th street and Collins Avenue.

Oh and by the way the police officer who caused the entire scenario was a short and chubby female officer with a nasty attitude, she needs to be reprimanded for her conduct.

Here are some pictures of the event, as you can see the traffic was at a stand still. You can also see Arenas & Storey in the background with their hands behind their back, that’s because they had handcuffs on.
Also you can see that female officer that I was talking about redirecting traffic after all the commotion she caused.

All I could say is that they both embraced their arrest like gentlemen without resisting or putting up a fight. I think they both should Sue the Miami Police for brutality and false arrest.

I am a Miami Heat fan not Wizards fan. But I was very upset with the way these poor guys where treated in my hometown by my own Police. It was sad and very embarrassing to see this happen them.

let that punk Jim disagree with me, but i want to see him do it to my face. He'll be scared. Jim is a punk in every sense of the word. As for gilbert, he is one of the brightest NBA stars hands down. He's my favorite player and if you dont like him at least show some respect.

20. dear gilbert im doing a hoops for heart charity for kids that have heart problamsmy goal is to raise 10,000$ ive already earnd alot but it will be nice if someone on this site will help me out thanx
