After a four hour semi-final
match against Sam Farha and a see-saw match agasint Sean "Jerkstore" Sheikhan, Ted Forrest sat down against
2005 runner-up Chris Ferguson at the final table of the 2006 National Heads Up Championship. The final table was a best-of-three series that took just over three and a half hours to complete, which is a very long time by anyone's standards, but I wonder if Ted felt like he was walking to the corner store, after his marathon heads-up sessions recently with Andy Beal.
Jesus won the first match, and then Ted went runner runner[1] to take home the trophy and $500,000. On the final hand, Ted moved all-in with Kc-7d, and Chris called with Qd-Jd. The flop was Kd-Qh-2h, and Ted took a dominating lead. The turn was the 4d, leaving Jesus with just five outs, and the river was the Kh, giving Ted trip kings and the win.
BJ Nemeth, writing for Poker Pages, says, "When first asked how he felt, Forrest talked about his recent heads-up matches against billionaire Andy Beal at the Wynn Casino. Forrest was up $7 million against Beal at one point, but then the Texas billionaire went on a tear and won $10.8 million straight to swing the pendulum -- creating a net loss of $3.8 million for Forrest in his matches. Forrest was having a crisis of confidence.
That was then, this is now. Ted Forrest now has his confidence back."
The 2006 National Heads Up Championship will begin airing in April on NBC.
