I can’t believe it is December already. It really kicked in this afternoon while I was reading Earl Burton over at PokerNews.com, as he was discussing the Player of the Year championship. There are only three tournaments left where players can accumulate points - the WSOP Circuit event at the Showboat in Atlantic City, the Trump Classic at the Trump Taj Mahal, and the Five Diamond World Poker Classic at the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Though it is currently a tight race for first place, it still could be anyone’s game with that many points still available.
John Phan has been the favorite most of the year, and still does hold the lead, though it is only by a slim margin. Top 20 places and accumulated points are as follows:
- John Phan 4324
- Men Nguyen 4124
- Michael Mizrachi 3801
- Michael Gracz 3744
- Tony Ma 3450
- Ted Forrest 3448
- Gavin Smith 3418
- Max Pescatori 3300
- John Hoang 3267
- Scotty Nguyen 3192
- Erick Lindgren 3192
- Freddy Deeb 3176
- Mark Seif 3087
- Amir Vahedi 3066
- Quinn Do 3034
- Phil Ivey 3032
- Allen Cunningham 2941
- Minh Nguyen 2940
- Minh Ly 2872
- Chris Ferguson 2796

1. It will be interesting to watch the points race for the final few events of the year. I'm very impressed that Michael Mizrachi has established himself as one of the top players so quickly - he'll be a player to watch for many years to come.
