It is the question most frequently asked, and most frequently argued by pros and amateurs alike: is poker a game of luck, or is it a game of skill? Most cities (and top pros) agree that the element of luck will be outweighed by more skillful players in the long term, which is one of the reasons we are able to play poker games here in Los Angeles. This question is currently before the courts in Great Britan, and the answer will seriously impact the future of poker in the UK. While her citizens anxiously await the ruling, The Times of London has put the question of luck vs. skill to its readers, and is frequently updating its website with quotes from all over the UK and beyond. The responses are a wonderful example of the British penchant for humo(u)r ("I've tossed a coin and the answer is luck!") as well as the British penchant to just be really fucking uptight ("Is it not true, sir? The more one practices the luckier one gets. This simple, but nonetheless profound, adage applies to all games of chance that involves some degree of mental agility.")
As of this writing, the votes seem to be 7 for luck, and 6 for skill . . . so maybe it's better to be lucky than it is to be good, after all.

1. I'll say that luck has something to do with it; however, even on my best day, I would never be as good of a player as the people who qualify for the WSOP each year. So I say it's more skill.
