Backgammon on TV

backgammonThe first ever televised Backgammon game occurred this month. The event was filmed in Monte Carlo back in July 2005 and it involved over 500 players from around the world. These players were competing for $100,000 and the title of World Champion.

This was actually the 30th World Backgammon Championships. Many of the world’s top players showed up to test their skills. This program was created to increase fan interest.

With this show, Pokerzone was hoping to give fans and viewers a behind the scene look at the backgammon world. Backgammon has a lot of interesting characters and it’s also a very strategic game. Many of the top poker players in the world today have a backgammon background.

Pokerzone will follow this up with a three part documentary called Ernie’s Game. This documentary is about a high stakes backgammon player from the U.K.
