Card Player Magazine posted an article about a new organization called the Poker Players Alliance (PPA). They are a nonprofit organization that was founded earlier this year. They hope to protect and preserve the game of poker as well as the players. Poker has raised a ton of money for charity but a lot of law makers are still trying to keep the game down. Poker clubs and home games are getting raided all the time and some politicians have made it their life’s mission to stop internet poker and online gambling.
Senator John Kyl from Arizona wrote a bill called the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2005. It would have made it illegal for banking institutions to work with gaming sites. The PPA is doing their best to lobby against this.
Players can go to the PPA website for information about the legality of poker. Poker laws vary and they’re hoping to educate players. The website is still a work in progress right now.
Linda Johnson has even got involved with the PPA. She was a little upset when she heard that authorities in Houston shut down a charity event organized by Phil Hellmuth. That event would have raised a ton of money for breast cancer research. Check out the below article for more details.

1. This is a great story, Derek. I've wondered when an organization would show up to advocate on behalf of poker players.
