Earl Burton at Poker News recently reviewed the Stu Ungar biography, One of a Kind. It's on my "to do list" and I haven't had a chance to start reading about the life and hard times of Stu Ungar yet. My brother showed me his autographed copy by both authors Nolan Dalla and Peter Alston, which he got in Las Vegas. Stu Ungar's widow, Madeline Ungar, also signed his copy. From what I've heard, One of a Kind is supposed to be one of the best written poker biographies to date and includes a foreword from World Poker Tour announcer Mike Sexton, who was a close friend of Ungar. Without a doubt, Stu "The Kid" Ungar was a unique personality. He grew up in New York City and was one of the best gin rummy players of all time. Unfortunately his personal demons and weakness for drugs and gambling sabotaged his poker career.Stu Ungar Book Review: One of a Kind

1. One of a Kind was a great book. It's, frankly, rather amazing that Stu lived for as long as he did. There were so many fascinating people who touched on his life in one way or another, most of them trying to help him, but he could never manage to help himself. He was basically a child who, thanks to his astounding gift for using cards to make money come out of thin air, never grew up psychologically. There will certainly never be another like him ever again.
