If you read alot of poker books, many of them talk about the best starting hands to play preflop when you are a beginner player. In Phil Hellmuth's book, Play Poker Like the Pros, he gives beginner players a list of his top ten hands to play and advises that you fold everything else. His advice is specifically meant for players looking to play Limit Holdem poker instead of No Limit. I followed Phil's advice early on in my poker playing days and it was a very profitable strategy for me. You give yourself a much better chance to be in a position to win money instead of suffering huge losses. The hands are listed in order of strength. See below for the Top Ten Hands.AA

These ten hands are the strongest starting hands in limit poker. Phil's beginner strategy is designed for survival purposes and will keep you in the game without going broke. This will then give you an opportunity to learn the more subtle techniques that are necessary to advance your game and take on tougher players as well as increase your profits. This is a very patient and tight strategy but it's a very effective gameplan. Try it out if you are a new player. The great thing about these hands is that you can play them in almost any position.
